Hub Discussion | Emotional Response to Current Global Challenges
| Organisation | The Hub |
| Location | Islington - Meeting Room |
| Date | Thu, 27 November 2008 18:00 - 20:00 |
| Description | Hub member Debbie Warrener is a facilitator, cross-cultural consultant, community activist and coach who has worked in the field of international development for many years. She has recently led a number of workshops inspired by eco-philosopher and activist Joanna Macy (www.joannamacy.net) which offer participants an opportunity to explore and address our feelings around the major changes underway for our planet at the moment, based on the belief that the sharing, expression and acknowledgement of such emotions can free us up to more playfully and lightly play our role in these challenging times. Debbie would like to explore this area further in discussion with you, specifically around the following questions: What is the role of our feelings in response to the current challenges and opportunities of climate change, economic instability, peaking oil and water etc.? What do we generally do with our emotional responses to these issues? Is this working? Is there a danger of burnout due to our suppression of strong emotional reactions to the current situation? Is another way of dealing with our feelings possible? Could some kind of support network or space to voice these feelings be useful? Or is this just fluffy stuff that could get in the way of the action we need to be taking? Programme: (1) Quick introduction to Debbie and Joanna Macy's work, (2) Pizza and conversation around the questions proposed above. Please RSVP to maria.glauser@the-hub.net. Members free, non-Members £7/£10. |
