Type of Business Consultancy

A consultant and adviser to government and third sector organisations in policy, strategy and service improvement, I specialise in sustainable development and public health. I also draw on my wider experience in economic development and employment, cultural services, learning and skills, and the legal and advice sectors. I work independently and in collaboration with other consultants and agencies.

In November 2008, I was appointed a non-executive director of City & Hackney Primary Care Trust where I hold the environment and sustainability portfolio. I am also the Trust's "Design Champion" and a member of the Risk Management Committee.

At the London Health Commission (LHC), I devised "Sustainable Local Economies for Health", a unique evidence base and strategic planning framework adopted by the London Development Agency, local authorities and NHS organisations. I am now developing this thinking in relation to social care. I am also the co-author with David Coats of "Healthy Work, Productive Workplaces: Why the UK Needs More Good Jobs” (LHC and Work Foundation 2005).

Before moving into public policy, I worked in book publishing and was, for several years, a commissioning editor at Cambridge University Press.

I am a trustee of Equinox, a specialist social care organisation providing residential and community services for people with alcohol, drug and mental health problems. I am a member of the UK Sustainable Development Commission’s national advisory panel and a Fellow of the RSA.
